Abstract

The effects of shot peening on the corrosive resistance of Ti-alloy under simulated body environment were studied in this paper. Three types of Ti-6Al-4V specimens were prepared for accelerated corrosion test. Machined specimen, micro-shot peened specimen, and shot blasted specimen were exposed to the saline solution of 0.9 % NaCl under a constant current of 10 mA. FE-SEM and EDS were used for the analysis of corroded specimens. The experimental results show that the shot peening process is more effective than the blasting process, which is currently applied to the manufacturing process of dental implant for increasing the corrosive resistance of Ti-alloy.
